Naked Elf formed in 1999 as an outlet for the group members' shared interest in group improvising and prog rock. At the same time Naked Elf members Rob MacGrogan, Andy Tegethoff, and Kelly Shane also began to explore more structured prog rock as Solution Science Systems.
