NoirNL
September 2004. Two guys move into an old, dilapidated farmhouse in the proximity of Winschoten. Mark Gerlsma (drums) and Douwe Dijkstra (guitars) have been friends for a long time. They can call the farmhouse their home in exchange of maintenance and a bit of rent. It doesn’t take long before the building turns into a paradise for musicians: half residence, half rehearsalroom. Douwe and Mark have been playing in bands since their 16th and they are now looking for other musicians to set up a new formation. They start having auditions, unfortunately most of them turn out to be nothing. But eventually they meet bassplayer Frank de boer (not the footballplayer) and guitarplayer Martin Lok and they start working on new songs. They play at a number of parties in their own home/rehearsalroom and their music proves to catch on. However, there wasn’t a singer and they had to quickly find someone for those vocal bits. This was easier said than done. One after the other singer came and went and if that wasn’t bad enough, Martin Lok left the band. After a long search they met singer/guitarplayer Nikky Sriamin at the end of May 2006. With him, the band Noir is complete. With a lot of enthusiasm they mix the heavy and lumbering of Isis, the progressive and psychedelic of Pink Floyd, the aggression and emotion of Deftones and the technical and complex of A Perfect Circle and Tool into a unique mix of compelling music. From Octobre 2006 they start to perform at gigs and at the start of 2007 they recorded their first official demo which will be released in March 2007.
