Oscar de la Hoya
Professional boxer, and very fond of music, Los Angeles-born Oscar de la Hoya got involved in the Latin pop scene with the release of a self-titled album. Oscar de la Hoya started pursuing a boxing career when he was a little boy, attending the Eastside Boxing Club in L.A., winning the gold medal at the 1990 Goodwill Games, and becoming an Olympic champion two years later. As a way to support his native community, Oscar de la Hoya founded the Oscar de la Hoya Youth Center to provide a safe environment for local children, as well as, the Oscar de la Hoya Learning Center, which focused on after school tutorial. Honoring his mother Cecilia, who was a Latin singer, his first record was released by EMI Latin on October 10, 2000. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide
