Paul F. Antonelli Jr.
It’s easy to say about Paul F. Antonelli Jr. that he is the type of artist that will purposely put a square peg in a round hole and make it work. Over his career which spans 15years, 6 six albums, a Toronto Jazz festival award and a Carnegie Hall performance he has been stretched, poked and prodded with countless music arrangements and different music creations. But Through that 15 years two things have remained constant: the sound and the ability. From Classical to Alternative Rock, Paul F. Antonelli Jr. has been able to infuse his technical and proficient ability and still have the edge that every great artist has to constantly push the envelope and seek the outer rim no matter how in or out of the box he or she is. A Canton Ohio native he has been involved in music for 20 yrs. When you speak to him you can tell that music and art are firmly implanted in his soul. Starting off with a musical family. With his father being a local musician and his mother being proficient at piano it only naturally turned Paul on to it with a deep passion and early how rogue. With the formula set for Paul to make an imprint he began with Rock Music, absorbing the foundation of his playing with such artists as Steve Howe, Steve Hacket, David Gilmore and John Mclaughlin. Knowing that so much more was out there. He began to study classical guitar. Paul F. Antonelli, Jr.Finding inspiration in such artists as Carlos Montoya, Manuel Barrueco and Julian Bream, he was able to enunciate the sound he was discovering. He began working on his first project ‘Ritual’. Focusing on the power trio Paul began using his sound to experiment with this format. After creating 4 albums with his band ‘Ritual’ he wanted to expand the sound to other platitudes. He began the ’10 movements’, which brought his idea to the light. After touring he began his Fusion Jazz album ‘Red, Black and Gray’ to which led to a successful tour as well. He is now focusing his energies into his latest album ‘Chagrin Falls’ in which he is experimenting in writing orchestral music for one instrument. He also began producing new acts. He is teaching, he is creating and looking for great music. He has always been the producing ‘mad hatter’ bringing that ‘envelope’ pushing passion to all projects. Antonelli’s ability to create such a diverse catalog only cements his creativity and vast talent. It would be best put from Jackson Pollock when he stated: “I continue to get further away from the usual painter's tools such as easel, palette, brushes, etc. I prefer sticks, trowels, knives and dripping fluid paint or a heavy impasto with sand, broken glass or other foreign matter added.” The job of all artists is to deny the accident and embrace the self. .
