How do you make a guy with a great voice sound bad? Give him terrible songs, terrible background vocals, and terrible instrumentation. Faster you can say, "he has a bad haircut" this album sinks.
I really wanted to like this album. Paul Young is a gifted singer. He could make the right song just give you chills. Too bad, none of the right songs made it to this record. It may have been regarded as adventerous when it was first released. however, it has not aged well. The word we use for stuff like this now is terrible.
