toadcrystal's Artist Review for Pet Shop Boys
""
Disappointing muddle.
All the critics said the new album was their best in ten years. As a fan since 1985, I was very disappointed--I guess there's a first time for everything. The only memorable tune is "I'm with Stupid," a cheap smack in the face for George W. or Tony B., take your pick. This album lacked the boys' usual wit, bite and emotional connection, not to mention, it wasn't (gasp!) very danceable. Over the years, I've been impressed with their musical growth and message-maturity. This just seems like a ranty misstep in the natural progression of greatness. I hope the next album has more emotional accessability/depth as well as danceable tunes.
