Pete Krason
------THE ARTIST------ Growing up watching his father perform, Peter Krason developed a love for music and a knack for the craft and discipline of songwriting. Written and recorded all on one day in November of 2001, Krason released his first album, “Cold In Your Head.” The “release” was only to relatives and close friends, but it was received with ecstatic acclaim. The critical uplift coaxed his songwriting practice into an addiction and a compelling drive to compose a few songs a day with school and work allowing… But still, owning only one microphone and merely using the primitive “Windows Sound Recorder” program included with Windows 98, Krason didn’t have the greatest options and outlets to produce quality recordings. And, with the passing of his father at age 13, financial capital was slim-to-none. Professional studios, with their high prices for production, mixing, mastering, and the sort, were out of the question. So, without many alternatives, a home studio had to come in the works… Record Dogma was born. Started in 2001, Krason’s scrappy, crappy computer-based home studio has developed through innovational recording technique and continual, yet gradual, hardware/software upgrades. The savings from every gig and album sale were collected and invested into better gear. Now, after nine albums and thirty one internet radio singles, this young and blooming singer/songwriter has found and maintained his niche in the music world. Remaining an industry outsider, the realization is clear that commercial quality production is not accessible coming straight out of a budget basement studio. Still, the music does its best with the means available to thrill, exhilarate, question, and inspire. Much of Peter’s work can be found on the internet. And although his studio upgrade to Pro Tools 7.3 and the Digi 003 recording hardware interface have practically bankrupted him, most of his music can still be found and downloaded for free on select sites. Still, if the spirit moves you to donate anything to his recording efforts, you can contact him about equipment or buy one of his songs at http://www.stage.fm . Thank you and enjoy the music! ------THE MUSIC------ Krason's music is an amalgam of sounds, laden with accordion, sitar, koto, taiko, shamisen, theremin, and any instrument or sound available. Sitar melodies and theremin keyboard patches riddled his first major album success in “I Wear The Night” {released early 2006). Still, the 21-year-old, budding singer/songwriter/etc/etc continues to produce charm and cunning tracks from his basement studio, Record Dogma, otherwise dubbed, "Crappy Computer Studio.” He’s Chicago’s alternative pop-rock artist. 2006's remarkable album, "I Wear The Night," flowed with melodic guitar/sitar melodies, ambient, delay guitars and piano soundscapes as it wove together an expanse of genres from the obviously alternative, "Sun Still Sleeps (Burn Out)", to the poppy acoustic ballad, "Needless to Say (I Need You)." Still, the album maintained cohesiveness. 2007's "Are You Contagious?" crossed the genre divide into being dominantly a work of alternative rock with its guitar heavy, "Integrity" and "Slug," but the mass hit internet single, "Angel," rounded out the album with an obvious pop, acoustic influence. 2008's, "Parade of Horribles" boasts the popped-up version of Krason's earlier internet hit, "Alone." Originally his grunge/alternative hit from 2001, "Alone" gets the chance to bloom as a ballady piano piece. If you're looking for a condensed Cliff-Notes portrait of this artist, he is simply diverse. It's a throwback to the sounds of U2 and the Beatles while still incorporating the more modern tone of the Killers and Strokes. Pete composes with the lyrical touch of Lennon and Elliott Smith while experimenting with genres and the musical status quo. Dabbling with acoustic 12-strings and mandolins or strumming rusty electric guitar sounds, Pete forces his audience to expect the unexpected. At the same time, because of his heavy influence in the classics (Beatles, U2, Led Zeppelin, and others), he'll never lead you too far from your musical comfort zone.
