Peterson Tusubira Mutebi
Mutebi was one of the few active Ugandan musicians during the Idi Amin era. He was influenced by local stars such as Tabu Ley and Franco as well as foreign acts like the Beatles, Jim Reeves, and Cliff Richard, developing a style he called "kadonkam," a fusion of native rhythms with C&W. His band also played a number of popular dance band styles. Mutebi's first recordings were made in 1972, and sold quite well given the poverty and instability of his native country. His popularity has endured to the present, and he remains hopeful that both political and economic conditions will be more conducive to the development of the Ugandan music scene in the near future. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
