Mod Rock Rules
If the Strokes were really tripping out on The Who Sell Out, this is what it would sound like. Ok, so there's not much psychadelia here, the Mod rock on this English/Sweedish band's debut is enough to turn anyone into a hipster. "Rock N Roll Lies" switches dynamics like a wierd Pearl Jam hit with a throaty David Bowie replacing Eddie Vedder. "Fall, Fall, Fall" hits a sweet spot extending a power ballad into post punk jam territory to the likes of Television's Marquee Moon. This is required listening this year for New York sceners and CBGB historians.
