Richard Jones

A versatile violinist Jones composed for his instrument as well as for the harpsichord. As the successor to Carbonelli as the leader of the orchestra at Drury Lane, Jones was in-turn succeeded by his students Michael Festing and Richard Clarke. The three major collections of Jones' work include "Suits or Setts of Lessons," "Chamber Air's. . .," and "Six Suites of Lessons." His violin and harpsichord music are comparable in their characteristics. Jones employed the use of wide leaps, lively rhythms, full harmonic blends and energetic ornamentation. The music Jones composed was highly original and virtuostic. The sonatas which he composed included complete and thorough movements and each sonata took about fifteen to twenty five minutes to perform (as did his suites). ~ Keith Johnson, All Music Guide
