RiverBluff Clan

American roots music, Americana, pop country, bluegrass Originally formed in the mid-1970s, this band has emerged as one of the most prominent bands on the Memphis scene during the mid-to-late 1990s. During their early years they competed with the disco fad that swept up the country in the '70s. They toured both the United States and the world during this time. But, the band fell a part in the mid-'80s and the members pursued various interests. Reforming in 1995 with the addition of one new member, Jimmy Davis, and original members Tommy Burroughs, Richard Ford, Harry Peel and Tony Sneed, the band has made a new name for themselves on the Memphis and Southern circuits. Versatile, the band plays many styles and can just as easily slide into a Bill Monroe tune as something by Gram Parsons. In both 1997 and 1998 the Memphis Chapter of NARAS named them the Premier Band of the Year while member Jimmy Davis was awarded the honors for Premier Male Vocalist in 1998 and Tommy Burroughs was given the title of Premier Strings Player for '94,'95 and 1996. Their reformation resulted in two recordings in 1996. They appeared on the Memphis compilation of Memphis: Ain't Like It Used to Be and contributed the tune, "Making Me Old." They also recorded and released their only live project, One Night in a Month of Sundays, recorded at the Poplar Lounge in their native Memphis. Performing to rave reviews, the band took to the road in 1998 and opened for Mark Collie. They also released their second CD, Two Quarts Low, on the newly formed Fat Chance Records. ~ Jana Pendragon, All Music Guide
