The polyphonic folksongs of Sweden are preserved through the performances and recordings of Stockholm-based octet, Rosenbergs Sjua. Representing the vision of folksinger Suzanne Rosenberg, the group features complex four-part vocals harmonies set to the delicate melodies of fiddle, viola, and cello. Rosenbergs Sjua brings together some of Sweden's best young folk singers and musicians. Rosenberg, who previously worked with traditional groups, Kvickrot and Rotvalta, is joined by vocalists Ulrika Boden, Sofia Sanden, and Eva Rune. Each is involved with a variety of outside projects. Boden is a member of three groups -- Salta, Kalabra, and Ranarim, while Rune has toured the United States and South Africa as a folksinger and is currently also a member of French-Swedish group, Café Noir. Sanden is a member of Ranarim. The instrumentalists in Rosenbergs Sjua remain active when not working with the group, as well. Fiddler Sven Ahlback is the head of the first folk music department at the Royal University College of Music in Stockholm and also plays with Rotvalta. Both of the ensemble's Viola players Ellika Frisell and Mikael Marin initially studied violin. Frisell played fiddle in Holsingland, in the '70s, and studied the Bingsjo tradition after moving to Dalama. In addition to working with musical theater groups, Frisell plays part-time with Flartolket and Den Fule. Marin, the group's newest member, also plays with Vasen, Nordman, and Rotvalta. Rosenbergs Sjua's cellist Annika Wijnbladh comes from a background in classical music and also performs with Trio Patrekatt. ~ Craig Harris, All Music Guide
