Sam's Trio
Led by Jacob Sam (Kwame Asare), Sam's Trio was the first group to establish a reputation playing guitar highlife in the 1930s. Their recording career bagen in London in 1928. They are best known for the song "Yaa Amponsah," which not only became the basis of so many subsequent highlife hits, but was also adopted by the ubiquitous Paul Simon for his song "Spirit Voices" on Rhythm of the Saints. ~ Leon Jackson, All Music Guide
