Shoshannah Piano

Shoshannah is a composer pianist, educator, therapist, and recording artist whose work has led her from concert halls to multi-media events such as dance, theater, TV, radio and film. Her mission is to bring G-d's unity, peace, and compassion to the world through music. A recognized child prodigy, Shoshannah began composing and improvising on the piano at age six. By the time she was nine, Shoshannah was winning piano competitions and solo performing continually, including several performances at Carnegie Hall, Camay Hall, and Steinway Hall. Shoshannah went on to win major piano competitions for seven consecutive years, and seemed destined to become a serious concert pianist. Unknown to her teacher, however, Shoshannah had never stopped composing and improvising her own music. Her irrepressible creativity and diverse musical interests would soon inspire her to follow a unique musical path. That path would lead Shoshannah to the California Institute of the Arts, where she studied with Leonid Hambro, Mel Powell, Morton Sobotnik, and other highly acclaimed composers and pianists such as Aaron Copeland, Steve Reich, Earle Brown, and Bill Douglas. At the university, Shoshannah immersed herself in classical, world, and avant garde music, and further developed her improvisational technique. While still a student, she pioneered Cal Art's Creative Improvisation Piano Program, and was given charge of the Secondary Piano department. Shoshannah further developed her Improvisational Piano Program into a revolutionary Music Therapy and Piano Teaching approach which she gives to this day. After college, Shoshannah began touring extensively throughout Israel, Switzerland, and the United States, exploring her love of different musical traditions. Performing on piano, synthesizer, and percussion, she appeared with a wide range of masterful musicians, including David Darling, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, Glen Velez, Giora Fiedman, and Baba Olitunji. Settling in New York City, Shoshannah continued to compose, perform, teach piano, and produce commissioned works for dance, theater and film. She appeared in concert at such well-known venues as Lincoln Center, the United Nations, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Hall, and the Jerusalem Theatre. Shoshannah created her first piano solo release, "Sanctuary," a deeply evocative and healing solo piano work that explores the full range of human emotion with sweeping power and delicacy. Shoshannah's piano is both powerful and sublime, passionate and reflective. Sanctuary blends Classical, modal Hebraic melodies, impressionistic harmonies and Middle Eastern rhythms into such themes as hope, forgiveness, and compassion. These compositions are focused, highly visual, melodic and healing. A couple of years later, Shoshannah moved to Jerusalem and experienced a profound spiritual opening that transformed both her life and music. From that point on, G-d became the singular inspiration and focus of her creativity. She became the vessel through which Divine love flowed through as music. Effortlessly, Shoshannah's music began to change. It became simple and pure, flowing with a grace and gentleness filled with light. Her second piano album, "Gifts From Heaven," fills the listener with a mystical sweetness that opens the heart to receive G-d's loving gifts for each one of us. The solo piano CD and cassette release was inspired by the composer's experience in the Holy Land and its loving ancient melodies. Shoshannah's 2006 Summer CD release, "Soul Journey" is a masterfully performed and highly versatile improvisational work. Each spontaneous expression tells a unique story of the human soul journey. The music of Soul Journey depicts different stages of spiritual growth and experience and captures a huge range of styles. Shoshannah's music on Soul Journey contains the expression of Divine simplicity from Gifts from Heaven to the passionate and playful expressions of her Sanctuary CD. The range of musical styles include New Age, Jazz, Hebraic, Classical, African, Middle-eastern, and Asian. Similar to King David's Psalms, which capture the full range of human emotion, so too, Soul Journey opens the listener to their own inner world and initiates one into the power of inner transformation and the bliss of Divine experience. "Deepheart Awakening," another 2006 release, is original cinematic piano music at its finest. Each piano composition portrays a specific Biblical or historical event, elevating the human experience of slavery and oppression into miracles, hope and redemption. One can imagine the colorful scenery of events that her compositions convey, as well as relate to its powerful transformational message on a personal level. These highly varied original compositions and arrangements range from uplifting and passionate dance rhythms to delicate and sublime melodies that soothe the soul. Shoshannah's classical style performance is technically dazzling and clearly demonstrates her child prodigy background. A portion of the music from "Deepheart Awakening" is a re-invention of Shoshannah's first CD release, "Sanctuary". Musical theme events include the Splitting of the Reed Sea, the Miraculous Manna that rains down from the Heavens, Clouds of Glory, the Mount Sinai experience, and a Deepheart Awakening that leads to the ultimate spiritual experience. Shoshannah's soon to be released piano recording, "Rivers Of Light," has been described as "rhapsodic, joyous and flowing, like an unending river of life force." Its gentle, uplifting momentum invites the listener to become a partner in creation, revealing the Divine Presence in our every action and relationship. "Rivers of Light" is a hopeful and inspiring expression toward a new age of global peace and unity. The liner notes contain a touching fantasy story that accompanies the enchanting musical themes where the flowing of water through light both literally and figuratively, brings ultimate healing, peace and harmony to a world which was once broken. Rivers of Light is eternal music that elevates beyond the limits of time and space. Today, Shoshannah shares her time between Jerusalem and New York. Shoshannah's recordings are currently distributed in Europe, Israel, and America. Shoshannah presently spends her musical time composing and recording new CD's, teaching piano through a spiritual-creative process, and offers healing music therapy sessions. Her piano lessons and music therapy practice engage her clients in a creative-spiritual-healing process promoting self-acceptance, self-expression, self confidence, spiritual connection, culminating in clarity of purpose of one's mission in the world. In addition, Shoshannah offers mindbody therapies to relieve and permanently clear emotional and physical maladies. She regularly volunteers her therapeutic healing therapies and music to two Terror Victim Organizations, helping to eliminate the symptoms of post traumatic stress syndrome.
