Signorello

The music of (John) Signorello (b. 2/1/66, New York, NY) is like one big shrine built to the deities of the big-band and lounge eras of long ago. A long history of involvement in music (playing guitar, trumpet and piano, as well as singing) developed into a focus on neo-swing in the mid '90s. Recalling the playfullness of Ella Fitzgerald with the style of Sinatra and Bennett, both his debut album, 1996's Signorello and his follow-up on Bob Records, Martini Dance, released in 1999, show a talent for adapting the standards and composing new originals in the swinging style. Signorello's lead vocals and bandleading also provide a focal point for a group of talented supporting musicians. Now orbiting closer to the DC area, in 1999 Signorello began work on a third album which will focus more strongly on new, original songs. ~ Stacia Proefrock, All Music Guide
