The original lineup of Slayer reunites to create a headbanging, crushing masterpiece!
This is the first album since "Seasons of the Abyss" from like the 1990s that Slayer plays with their original lineup: Tom Araya (vocals/bass), Kerry King & Jeff Hanneman (guitars), and Dave Lombardo (drums). It shows Slayer's willingness to be themselves to create a fantastic thrash-metal album, with Araya's intense vocals and lyrics and King and Hanneman's talent with the guitar. The songs basically now have the purpose now of going against the war in Iraq and blaming religion for the world's racism and poverty and stuff like that. "Catalyst" makes a great opener. "Skeleton Christ" and "Cult" do get anti-religious, so I warn people who practice Christian religion. "Jihad" and "Consfearacy" are also great anti-war songs. I think religious moralists should look beyond Slayer's satanic lyrics and consider King and Hanneman's guitar talents, which are really unique. Overall, this is the first full Slayer album I've heard, as I first learned of the band from a live version of "Raining Blood" in the 2003 "MTV2 Headbangers Ball" compilation. I became interested in this album when I was watching "Headbanger's Ball" online on MTV2 website and Kerry King announced that the original lineup were going to be reunited. That said, I look forward to listening to Slayer's older works.
