Slick Dickens
“When you think of the struggle, a time to unwind, the love below, the love above and the road to the top, you’ll hear Slick Dickens. Slick Dickens is known for their in your face style of music often referred to as “Funky Tonk” a sound that combines The Blues, Punk, Honky-tonk, Rock n Roll and Funk.” Slick Dickens formed in the early winter of 2002 in San Antonio, TX. Throughout the next couple of years the band underwent many changes and hard ships. While losing members to addiction and depression front man, Ernesto Flores struggled to keep his dream a reality. That’s when his two roommates and long time friends, Brian “Goodz” Arocha and Michael “Dickens” Moreno approached Ernesto with the idea of dedicating themselves to their instruments and to the band. After a few short weeks of honing down there skills and learning every Slick Dickens song, the band played their first show together and haven’t stopped gigging since. Slick Dickens as we know them today is Ernesto Flores on guitar and vocals, Mike Dickens on bass, and Brian Goodz on drums. They hit the S.A. music scene hard in 2005. Playing various venues from The Sanctuary (where they are noted as the “house band”) to Alibi’s Sports and Spirits, the guys can be seen up to 10 times a month. They have been frequently compared to The White Stripes, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Attributing much of their success to God, the support of their family and friends, and their die-hard fans, Slick Dickens played to a crowd of over 300 at their December 29th, 2006 CD release party. Slick Dickens is well known through the S.A. music scene, with shows that include opening for the infamous Horrorpops at The White Rabbit in October 2006, St. Jude’s Children with Cancer Research benefit hosted by Chili’s in September 2006, and appearing as special guests on KENS5 TV show “Great Day SA” in May 2006. You take Ernesto’s incredible vocals, Mike’s flare for funk, and Brian’s intense energy and you get the kick ass sound that is Slick Dickens.
