Susan Court

Susan Court is a talented vocalist, pianist, and songwriter from Seattle, WA. She started her musical training with piano lessons when she was around seven years old. A couple of years later she wrote her very first tunes, simple little numbers that embarrassed her and impressed her music teacher. Court's training continued all the way through a good part of her life, up until she earned a BA in Music Theory/History from the University of Washington. During those early, and often lean years, Court paid the bills by working at many non-musical jobs. Once she spent time as a cocktail waitress in a Karaoke bar, and although she will be the first to admit she wasn't a very good waitress, she did let her skills entertain the crowd when she took a turn on stage. There was no pay for that part, but it did give her practice and experience. Court has performed in a lot of places over the length of her career, appearing in listening rooms, clubs, and at festivals. At first she usually took the stage alone, but later most of the gigs she did found her with the help of a good band behind her, including skilled artists like drummer Mark Yeend, guitarist John Morton, percussionist Tim Miller, cellists Jami Sieber and Joe Bichsel, and bassist Jonathan Burns. In 1998 Court completed her solo debut album, High Relief. Some of the folk-pop tracks listed on this first offering are "Chameleon," "Fundevogel," "Floodlettign," "Blight & Bonny," and "Between the Quiet." ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
