Sweet Baby Jesus

Along with the likes of Crimpshrine, the Mr. T Experience, Operation Ivy, Brett's TV, Stikky, and Soup, Sweet Baby Jesus has been considered as one of the original Berkley punk outfits during the mid-'80s. With the band consisting of Dallas (vocals), Matt (guitar/vocals), Richie (bass), and Sergie (drums) -- who would be eventually replaced by Aaron Cometbus -- the quartet would release their first album, It's a Girl, in 1989 on a major label before corporate politics got in the way of its proper distribution. After breaking up not too long after It's a Girl went out of print, individual members went on to join the likes of Pinhead Gunpowder, Samiam, the Wynona Riders, and the Bomb Bassets. Seven years later, Lookout Records restored Sweet Baby Jesus' legend by not only reissuing the their singles, demos, and scattered material on the 1996 compilation CD Hello Again -- which is also a split with Brett's TV -- but as well as reprinting It's A Girl that same year. ~ Mike DaRonco, All Music Guide
