Tapegerm Collective
Originally an extension of the informal Homemade Music label remix page, Tapegerm Collective was envisioned by Bryan Baker (publisher of Gajoob and head of Homemade Music) as a free-form entity, spreading in a viral manner by means of the Internet and evolving over time. The only structural elements applied to the core idea were: (1) that each member should have a minimum monthly goal and (2) that the group membership be limited. Each member of Tapegerm Collective provides loops for use in compositions, and each member selects elements to utilize in a given piece. Whenever enough new material is gathered for an album, one is released, which has resulted in a hectic, though organized, schedule. Baker was originally joined by J Mundok, Chris Finney (of Harsh Reality), and Scott Carr. Within a matter of weeks, Collective had attracted other members, including Bev Stanton of Arthur Loves Plastic, Al Margolis of Sound of Pig/Pomus, and others. Later group additions include Mungojelly, Chaos Is Your Destiny, and David Alexander McDonald. By early 2002, Collective had released 21 titles in the Germination series (there is no "Germination Nine") and was showing no signs of slowing down. ~ Steven E. McDonald, All Music Guide
