The Boys
A product of the first wave of British punk, the Boys formed in London in 1976. The group was founded by guitarist "Honest" John Plain, a factory worker who recruited fellow employees Duncan "Kid" Reid on vocals and bass and Jack Black on drums; they were later joined by guitarist Matt Dangerfield and keyboardist Casino Steel, a onetime member of the Hollywood Brats. After touring in support of John Cale, in 1977 the Boys debuted with the single "I Don't Care," followed later in the year by their self-titled debut LP. Upon the release of 1978's Alternative Chartbusters, the group reconvened in a recording studio in Steel's native Hell, Norway to cut 1979's To Hell with the Boys. Steel left the band in 1980, and after one final LP, 1981's Boys Only, they split up; among their recorded legacy was also 1980's irreverent Christmas Album, recorded as their alter ego the Yobs. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
