The greatest band, including the clash, of the late 70s - early 80s and one of the best ever, ranking with the kinks, the clash, the stones, and small faces and just about any band or artist you'd care to mention, with weller's solo career and its genius as compelling proof of that viewpoint. as a teenager and young adult during the time they were together, it was very frustrating for me and my other friends who loved the band that they never managed to get airtime in the united states. it's gratifying that now, even if his sales aren't quite what they should be in the united states, the critical acknowledgment of the quality of his work, both solo and with the jam, is solid and weller's genius is now recognized on both sides of the atlantic.
