greatmidget's Album Review for Urban Hymns
""
A work of art!
Two words - Sheer brilliance!! They just keep getting better and better! Pity it was their last album, all that inner friction was doing wonders for their music. It could have easily passed for as their greatest hits album, with most of their best work being on it. Their instant hit - Bittersweet Symphony, The mesmerizing Weeping Willow, Space and Time (Enchanting), Lucky Man are just some of the great songs on this album.
I must admit though some of the songs on this album are a bit strange. Like Neon Wilderness, for example. Dont get me wrong, I like the song but it just didnt seem like it fitted with the rest of the album (sorry Nick McCabe, I know you wrote that one). And The Drugs Dont Work just makes you feel you feel like going out to the yard to shoot your self...it is so depressing!! (I know it was such a huge hit but it really kills my happiness so i dont listen to it anymore!). All said and done - This album is The Verve's swan song, and its a pretty damn good way to go out.
