The Brothers Whaaa
HISTORY Although history will show that "The Brothers Whaaa" officially formed as a band in 2008, the reality is somewhat more complicated. Friends Sam and CJ had known each other for about 7 years before they decided it was finally time to form an official band... of some sort, which finally became known by what was originally just a working title - The Brothers Whaaa. Trying to identify exactly when they started making music together is a hard task. Both had been teaching themselves how to play guitar for many years, and indeed Sam had been writing and recording demos at home for a number of years before the boys met. Once their mutual interest in songwriting was discovered, the two continued to work on their own material, using each other as a sounding board for new ideas or changes that might need to be made to an old song. Sam briefly explored a solo acoustic career - blowing the crowd away at the Hi-Fi bar in 2004 as the support act for Adam Kowalczyk (guitarist for the US rock band "Live"). After playing only a couple of other solo gigs however, he packed the gear away and went to work in an office (as CJ was already doing), effectively putting an end to any rock star dreams he had harboured... However, the boys then began to jam together at home, learning to play - as an acoustic duo - all of Sam's older material, and all of the new material that each would come up with. After doing this for over 12 months, and having a workable set list of 20+ songs, it was clearly time to start putting this music out there, and the decision was made to show Melbourne what they were all about. It was decided that 2008 would be the year that a little bit of "Whaaa" was unleashed on the world! THE FUTURE Home recorded studio sessions are now in the works for the first full-length album by the boys, which will showcase acoustic versions of their current catalogue. To coincide with the album's release, the boys will debut their acoustic show in Melbourne - with a target date of August/September for the first gig. A number of Sam's fans from the Hi-Fi gig, who have been following his movements (few as they have been!) over the intervening years, are already keenly anticipating the next live performance, and in recognition of their support, The Brothers Whaaa have released via their website (www.brotherswhaaa.com) a number of sample tracks - just to whet the appetite a little more! So check out the site, have a listen to what is there, and stay tuned for the release of the first album, and the subsequent live gigs in Melbourne, soon in 2008.
