Trackmaster Lou

Under a series of guises, Detroit artist Lou Robinson -- primarily known as Trackmaster Lou -- has released a plethora of influential techno records for prestigious labels such as Underground Resistance and Tresor. His recording career began in the mid-'80s with a group called the Preps and was highlighted by the song "Hot Box," recorded with Was Not Was' David McMurray. By the late '80s, Robinson inaugurated himself into the world of electronic dance music, collaborating with Terrence Parker and Marc Kinchen as Separate Minds and releasing an EP for Detroit's Express Records. Once Separate Minds went their separate ways, Robinson began releasing solo recordings under many different names -- Unknown Force, the Specialist, Black Man, the Shadow, Allergy -- with Scan 7 being his most recognized recording name. As Scan 7, he released a series of techno EPs on two of the world's most esteemed techno labels, Detroit's Underground Resistance and Berlin's Tresor, while his tracks appeared on the mix CDs of prominent DJs such as Jeff Mills and Blake Baxter. ~ Jason Birchmeier , All Music Guide
