Unknown Instructors

A self-described "punk-jazz-rock-experimental" group, Unknown Instructors match the legendary Minutemen rhythm section of bassist Mike Watt and drummer George Hurley with Saccharine Trust guitarist Joe Baiza and poet and saxophonist Dan McGuire in an inspired battle of hyper-advanced musical wits. Released in 2005 by Smog Veil Records and featuring additional guest vocals from Saccharine Trust associate Jack Brewer, the Unknown Instructors' The Way Things Work album disguised a carefully structured examination of Dadaist concepts behind a façade of free-form improvisation, the likes of which might put a smile on the faces of both Captain Beefheart and John Coltrane. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
