Waclawaz Szamotul
The most important compositions by this poet involved in the Protestant movement were his sacred polyphonic pieces. He mastered this technique bringing this Polish idiom of a capella music to its zenith. Szamotul was educated both at the Collegium Lubranscianum and at Krakow University, 1538. He worked for the governor of Troki, Lithuania as well as the family of King Sigismund II August for whom Szamotul became the court composer in 1547. Some of the music he composed became popular because of its facile, two-voiced contrapuntal textures. ~ Keith Johnson, All Music Guide
