Whalebones

Justin Deary and Jon Treneff started Whalebones in Seattle during the spring of 2005. For the first year the band operated as what some might call a collective--many friends knew the songs and the personnel would be different for every show. However, over time the line up of Whalebones has solidified into the group it is today; Justin Deary on guitar, Jon Treneff on Drums, K.C. Gates on bass, Joram Young on guitar, and Night Canopy’s Amy Blaschke on keys and vocals. With no record label support, Whalebones has toured the West Coast four times to include the summer of 2005 with Dutch Dub and Moonrats, the Spring of 2006 with Pretty Girls Make Graves, and August of the same year opening for Wolf Parade and Frog Eyes. In April of 2007 the band took a trip down to San Francisco and Oakland before heading to Big Sur to play Folk Yeah’s Spring Festival at the Fernwood Resort along with Howlin’ Rain, Noah Gorgeson, Mystic Chords of Memory, and more. Whalebones have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Pink Mountaintops, Oakley Hall, Howlin’ Rain, Band of Horses, Cave Singers, Wolf Parade, Frog Eyes, Court and Spark, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Vietnam, and most recently The Black Angels. Their home recorded 30 minute 5 song cd “Morning Man” is available from the band and soon on iTunes.
