Johann Pachelbel was the father of Wilhelm, the eldest son. The latter was a German composer and organist who held positions at Furth, Erfurt and also at Nuremberg. As a composer his main contributions were organ works and other scores for keyboard instruments. It is not surprising that a number of the keyboard compositions are similar to the compositions of his father but Wilhelm's later works were clearly more forward looking than Johann's.
