kyron828's Album Review for Black Codes (From the Underground)

The album never gets its respect...
Despite how many people may not care too much for Wynton Marsalis there are two uncontestable facts: First, he SAVED acoustic jazz from being a historical footnote like ragtime. Second, he as a young Black jazz musician put out a jazz album that is WORTHY of comparison to Miles Davis during his quintet years. This was all in the mid 80's, a time when traditional jazz was dying out as younger people paid little attention to it. This was the first jazz CD I bought. It is a classic and I think in due time it will stand on its own as one of the great jazz albums of the 20th century as it deserves to. It is impressive and at the same time it doesn't overwhelm the novice jazz listener. If you want to get into acoustic jazz with an artist that is still alive check out Wynton and pick up this album!
