Yohannes Tekola has played a major role in the evolution of Ethiopia's music for more than two decades. As leader and trumpet player of popular old-style group the Wallias Band since 1981, Tekola has been instrumental in introducing future star vocalists, including James Brown-esque singer Alemayu Eshete and soulful crooner Netsanet Mellesse.
