Lollapalooza
When: August 3-5
Where: Grant Park, Chicago
Once an iconic traveling home to the kings of alternative music, the creation of Perry Farrell has morphed into a massive, three-day event in the heart of the Windy City. The festival grounds and its eight stages stretched over one mile from end to end, forcing attendees to pick-and-choose who to see and who to skip, and also getting them plenty of exercise under sweltering heat. This year saw the return of Lolla old-timers Pearl Jam in their only major North American performance of the year. It also saw performances--spectacular and no-so-much--from the likes of Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals, My Morning Jacket, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Roots, the Black Keys, Lupe Fiasco, TV on the Radio, Pete Yorn, Paolo Nutini, Amy Winehouse, Femi Kuti, the Hold Steady, Stephen Marley, M.I.A., Blonde Redhead, Peter Bjorn & John, the Wailers, Rhymefest, Soulive, the Black Angels, and plenty of others. Check out MP3.com Live's full coverage of the event, including interviews with Peter, Bjorn and John, the Wailers, Pete Yorn, the Black Angels, Soulive, and Mink.
