Strait, Paisley top CMA nominees

Singers garner five nominations apiece, including album and single of the year; event to be held Nov. 7 in Nashville.

A country music legend and one in the making lead the list of nominees for the Country Music Association Awards, with George Strait and Brad Paisley nabbing five nominations apiece.

The awards, for which nominations were unveiled in a press conference today, will be doled out November 7 at the Sommet Center in Nashville and broadcast on ABC.

Strait, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame last year, is up for entertainer, male vocalist, and single (for "Wrapped), as well as album (for It Just Comes Natural) and musical event for the live version of "Hey Good Lookin'" with Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson. Songwriters Bill Anderson, Buddy Cannon, and Jamey Johnson were nominated for song of the year for Strait's "Give It Away."

Paisley is up for entertainer, male vocalist, album (for 5th Gear), single (for "Ticks"), and video (for "Online," which was directed by actor-turned-video director Jason Alexander).

Meanwhile, reigning entertainer of the year Kenny Chesney, Alison Krauss, and Martina McBride each received four nominations, and Big & Rich's John Rich, reigning female vocalist Carrie Underwood, and three-time male vocalist Keith Urban each scored three nods.

Horizon Award nominees include Jason Aldean, Rodney Atkins, Little Big Town, Kellie Pickler, and Taylor Swift.
