Vedder eyeing solo tour?
Having played most of the instruments, sung nearly every note, and written nine of the 11 songs on the soundtrack for the new movie Into the Wild, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder is, for the first time, contemplating a solo tour, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"If you surf 50-foot waves all the time, you can't try too many new things because 50-foot waves are kind of life and death," Vedder, an avid surfer, told the paper. "Playing big shows is like that. So you want to take on some smaller waves to rework or refine what you do, and then take it back to the big surf."
Vedder crafted most of the soundtrack for the Sean Penn-directed film, which hits theaters Friday and tells the story of Chris McCandless, the young Virginia man who starved to death in the Alaska wilderness two years after giving his life savings to charity and severing all ties with his family.
Vedder told the paper that he identified quite a bit with McCandless, but that the soundtrack doesn't spell the demise of Pearl Jam by any means. "We've been a group for a long time, and we will continue to be so, I hope, for a really long time."

Sex Pistols to reunite again
Four years after their last reunion, the Sex Pistols have announced they will regroup once again to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of their breakthrough 1977 album, Never Mind the Bollocks. Singer John Lydon, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock will play at the Brixton Academy in London on November 8.
Bollocks, the band's first and only studio album, will be reissued October 29 by Virgin Records and will be available on heavyweight vinyl with a 7-inch insert of the song "Submission," which was excluded from the original release but inserted into the first 50,000 copies as a 7-inch at the band's request.
The Sex Pistols famously skipped their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last February.
Coltrane home recognized
The Dix Hills, New York home where John Coltrane lived with his family from 1964 to 1973 and wrote "A Love Supreme," has been added to the New York State and National Register of Historic Places.
Another Coltrane residence, at 1511 N. 33rd Street in Philadelphia, was added to the national register in 1999. The legendary jazz saxophonist died in 1967 at age 40.
Reba McEntire honored
Country singer Reba McEntire has been named woman of the year by Billboard, the first time the magazine has given such an award. "I am touched to be embraced in such a warm way," McEntire, 52, said in a statement. The honor coincides with its second annual Women in Music issue, which will be published in early October.
McEntire's new album of duets, which sees her team up with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson, Kenny Chesney, Carole King, and Faith Hill, hits stores today.
