Vedder eyeing solo tour?

Into the Wild Into the Wild

Having played most of the instruments, sung nearly every note, and written nine of the 11 songs on the soundtrack for the new movie Into the Wild, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder is, for the first time, contemplating a solo tour, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"If you surf 50-foot waves all the time, you can't try too many new things because 50-foot waves are kind of life and death," Vedder, an avid surfer, told the paper. "Playing big shows is like that. So you want to take on some smaller waves to rework or refine what you do, and then take it back to the big surf."

Vedder crafted most of the soundtrack for the Sean Penn-directed film, which hits theaters Friday and tells the story of Chris McCandless, the young Virginia man who starved to death in the Alaska wilderness two years after giving his life savings to charity and severing all ties with his family.

Vedder told the paper that he identified quite a bit with McCandless, but that the soundtrack doesn't spell the demise of Pearl Jam by any means. "We've been a group for a long time, and we will continue to be so, I hope, for a really long time."

Sex Pistols to reunite again

Sex Pistols Sex Pistols

Four years after their last reunion, the Sex Pistols have announced they will regroup once again to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of their breakthrough 1977 album, Never Mind the Bollocks. Singer John Lydon, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock will play at the Brixton Academy in London on November 8.

Bollocks, the band's first and only studio album, will be reissued October 29 by Virgin Records and will be available on heavyweight vinyl with a 7-inch insert of the song "Submission," which was excluded from the original release but inserted into the first 50,000 copies as a 7-inch at the band's request.

The Sex Pistols famously skipped their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last February.

Pearl Jam rose from the ashes of Mother Love Bone to become the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s. Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin was the definitive heavy metal band. It wasn't just their crushingly loud interpretation of the blues -- it was how they incorporated mythology, mysticism, and a variety of other genres (most notably world music and British folk) -- into their sound. Led Zeppelin had mystique. They rarely gave interviews, since the music press...

The Sex Pistols The Sex Pistols

The Sex Pistols may have only been together for two years in the late '70s, but they changed the face of popular music. Through their raw, nihilistic singles and violent performances, the band revolutionized the idea of what rock & roll could be. In England, the group was considered dangerous to the very fabric of society and was banned across...

John Coltrane

Despite a relatively brief career (he first came to notice as a sideman at age 29 in 1955, formally launched a solo career at 33 in 1960, and was dead at 40 in 1967), saxophonist John Coltrane was among the most important, and most controversial, figures in jazz. It seems amazing that his period of greatest activity was so short, not only...

Reba McEntire was one of the most successful new country vocalists to emerge in the early '80s. The only problem was, she began her recording career in the mid-'70s.
