Variety reports that Oscar-winning movie director has agreed to helm film about late Beatles guitarist.
Having tackled The Band, the Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan, Martin Scorsese is ready to take a shot at the life of late Beatles guitarist George Harrison.
Variety reported today that the Oscar-winning movie director has signed on to make a documentary about Harrison's life, with the two surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, expected to make an appearance in the film.
The documentary, which will be produced by Scorsese and Harrison's widow Olivia, would cover Harrison's Beatles career and later years that included a successful solo music career as well as a foray as a movie mogul when he backed such movies as Monty Python's Life of Brian and Time Bandits.
Scorsese is also said to be interested in delving into Harrison's Eastern spiritual pursuits.
"George Harrison's music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today and I'm looking forward to delving deeper," Scorsese said.
Harrison died of lung cancer at age 58 in 2001.
"It would have given George great joy to know that Martin Scorsese has agreed to tell his story," Olivia Harrison told Variety.
