California country music festival's sophomore outing will feature Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Big & Rich, Carrie Underwood, and many more.

The concert promoter behind Coachella has not gotten into country music lightly.

The Judds The Judds

Goldenvoice, which organizes the annual Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., unveiled the lineup for its second annual Stagecoach Festival, to be held at the same venue May 3-4, and it's a doozy.

Stagecoach '08 will include a one-off performance from the Judds, playing their first live show since 2000, as well as a who's who of country stars, including Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Big & Rich, Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson, Dwight Yoakam, George Jones, Trace Adkins, Dierks Bentley, Earl Scruggs, and Ralph Stanley.

The event will also feature performances from Kellie Pickler, Shooter Jennings, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Dan Tyminski, Ian Tyson, Jack Ingram, the Isaacs, Bucky Covington, Riders in the Sky, Kentucky Headhunters, Michael Martin Murphey, Cherryholmes, J.D. Crowe, Wylie & The Wild West, Red Steagall, Luke Bryan, Halfway To Hazard, Billy Joe Shaver, Ryan Bingham, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Waddie Mitchell, Crystal Shawanda, and Jypsi and the Greencards.

Those bands will be scattered across four stages. Just like last year, the event will also include activities, such as mechanical bull rides, lasso and roping clinics, and fiddling demonstrations. Tickets go on sale Friday via Ticketmaster.

In related news, the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, also held at Empire Polo Field in Indio, is set for April 25-27. Lineup details are expected early next year.

The Judds The Judds

Up until the rise of Brooks & Dunn in the '90s, the Judds were the most commercially successful duo in country music history. Mother Naomi and daughter Wynonna enjoyed an astounding run of 14 number one singles from 1984 to 1989, ranking them as one of the most popular country acts of the '80s. Their music combined elements of traditional...

Five studio albums into their incredible career, the members of Rascal Flatts find themselves firmly atop the music world. Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney have scaled unbelievable heights in the eight years since their debut, and yet with the release of Still Feels Good, they find their fortunes still rising. For proof, they need to...

Tim McGraw Tim McGraw

When Tim McGraw debuted in the early '90s, few would have predicted that he would eventually take over Garth Brooks' position as the most popular male singer in country music. Yet that's exactly what he did, thanks to a string of multi-platinum albums, a high-profile marriage to fellow superstar Faith Hill, and Brooks' own inevitable decline....

Big & Rich Big & Rich

Big & Rich formed in Nashville around 1998, when ex-Lonestar vocalist John Rich began collaborating with songwriter Big Kenny (real name: Kenny Alphin, who'd once led an outfit called luvjOi). The duo established a performers' roundtable at a local dive, and the event -- dubbed the "Muzik Mafia" -- soon gained a reputation for its casual...

The first country American Idol, Carrie Underwood grew up in the small town of Checotah, OK, and began singing with her church at the tender age of three. The last Judds album may not be their strongest but nonetheless featured some killer tracks and is by no means unsuccessful when taken as a whole. There is plenty of merit here. With an opening track like "Born to Be Blue" that begins as an old swinging blues tune à la the 1930s and moves into a hot fusion of country and R&B, the album is off to...

There's good reason for Tim McGraw's endurance at the top of contemporary country: he's a restless visionary who's worked hard to improve as an interpretive singer. In 2002, McGraw bucked the trend and convinced his label, and producers Byron Gallimore and Darran Smith, to let him use his road band in the studio. The rough and tumble intimacy of...

Given the tightly controlled nature of American Idol, it's a wonder that the televised talent contest has never produced a winner who specialized in country music, since there's no segment of modern popular music that is controlled tighter than contemporary country. Maybe this thought was in the minds of Simon Fuller and the rest of AmIdol's 19...
