Beckham visits Snoop Dogg on show

Snoop Dogg wanted to find out for himself how to bend it like Beckham, so he went straight to the source. Soccer star David Beckham, who is married to Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, appeared on Snoop Dogg's reality TV show Father Hood this week on E!. The rapper took his three children to the David Beckham Academy of Soccer, where Becks ran Snoop's kids through a series of drills, from ball control to long kicks.

Following the lesson, Beckham and Snoop ate at Los Angeles soul-food staple Roscoe's House of Chicken 'n Waffles. "I've been a big hip-hop fan for many years, a big rap fan, and to be asked to do something with Snoop was incredible," Beckham said in a statement.

Dupri talks Jackson 5 reunion party

His intentions are unclear, but Jermaine Dupri just tossed some kerosene on the smoldering Jackson 5 reunion rumors. In touting his New Year's Eve party at his Studio 72 Club in Atlanta, Dupri, whose fiancée is Janet Jackson, told local radio station V-103 that it is a Jackson 5 party, with Michael Jackson and his four brothers expected to be flown to the event via helicopter and perform.

"It's the Jackson 5 party," he told the station. "I swear to you it's going to be the biggest party this town has ever seen." Dupri later clarified the comments in a statement to MTV News, calling the event a "Jackson 5 celebration," but not committing to a Jackson 5 performance.

Jackson 5 reunion rumors have picked up steam in recent weeks, and Jermaine Jackson partially confirmed reunion plans in an interview with BBC 6 Music. "We feel we have to do it one more time," Jermaine Jackson told the BBC. "We owe that to the fans and to the public."

Celine Dion wraps Vegas show

After grossing more than $400 million and attracting nearly 3 million fans, Celine has wrapped her A New Day... show at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. In the final performance of the show, Dion acknowledged that her pregnancy and poor early reviews almost sank the show when it opened it March 2003.

"At one point, it was like feeling like the Titanic was about to sink again," she said. "But we believed and we went on with it, even though the vibe was not that positive for us." Dion, 39, became pregnant before the show opened and told husband-manager Rene Angelil she did not want to continue. "I had a life for the first time," the French-Canadian chanteuse said in a video before her 717th show. "I knew then that I wanted to have more success as a mother than a singer."

But Dion went ahead with the show because a substantial financial investment had already been made and turned it into an impressive run of nearly five years. After her last number, Dion invited husband Angelil and her son, Rene-Charles, now 7, on stage with her. Last month, Dion released Taking Chances, her first English-language album in four years and she sang the title song on the album during the extra-long finale.

Anthrax hires new singer

In just a short month, Dan Nelson has gone from unknown singer to frontman for a legendary heavy metal band. Anthrax announced Nelson as its new lead singer. "It really is a dream come true," Nelson, 31, told Newsday. "I've been on pins and needles waiting to hear, and I still can't believe it."

Anthrax began its search for a new singer last year, after talks to reunite with its original singer Joey Belladonna fell through. Guitarist Rob Caggiano had met with Nelson for a possible side project, but after they jammed together for 10 hours, he said, "I think you'd be right for Anthrax."

Nelson said he had been officially selected about two weeks ago and that he had been working on songs with the band's guitarists, Scott Ian and Caggiano, drummer Charlie Benante and bassist Frankie Bello for its new album. "The new songs are the real deal, they're really looking to re-create Anthrax," Nelson said. "They are looking to do something timeless."

Calvert death ruled accidental overdose

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C. has ruled that Hawthorne Heights' guitarist Casey Calvert died due to the "acute combined effects of opiate, citalopram, and clonazepam intoxication," or what the office referred to as "substance abuse." But unlike many a story of rock star overdose, it seems that Calvert's case was considerably more complicated.

In a statement issued after the autopsy results were reported, the band stressed that Calvert was no drug user and that he had long been taking medication for depression and was also prescribed Vicodin following a recent root canal.

"According to the toxicology report, the cause of death was due to a fatal interaction between depression meds, anxiety meds, and an opiate...Opiates being mentioned along with the term 'substance abuse,' coupled with 'rockstar' stereotypes immediately conjure up images of hard drug use and addiction, which simply couldn't be further from the truth in Casey's instance," the statement continues. "What the toxicology report doesn't show is that prior to us leaving for tour, Casey had a root canal and was prescribed Vicodin for the pain. Once again, Casey was not involved in anything illegal, nor was he a substance abuser."
