Del The Funky Homosapien
Eleventh Hour
A pioneering emcee from Oakland, Del the Funky Homosapien has been gracing listeners with his unique rhyme stylings since the early 1990s. The patriarch of independent hip-hop supercrew Hieroglyphics (which also includes Souls of Mischief, Casual, and Pep Love), he is beloved around the world, thanks to his charismatic flow, intricate lyricism, and wide-ranging subject matter.
His first solo album, the P-Funk-influenced I Wish My Brother George Was Here, dropped way back in 1991. Featuring the breakout singles "Mistadobalina" and "Dr. Bombay," it established Del as both a decidedly non-gangsta West Coast artist (though his cousin Ice Cube played a role in the production) and a formidable wordsmith to be reckoned with.
Since then, he has continued to release classic records, both as a solo artist (if you don't have No Need for Alarm, go cop that immediately) and in collaboration with groups like Gorillaz, Deltron 3030, and Handsome Boy Modeling School. Recently signed to Def Jux, Del returns with Eleventh Hour, his long-awaited, highly anticipated new album.
