The Purple One will join Portishead, Kraftwerk, and Death Cab for Cutie atop bill on three-day fest's second night.
Ever since it announced the lineup for Coachella in late January, festival organizer Goldenvoice has faced criticism that the bill lacked the star wattage of years past and of this year's other major fests.
One word will likely halt that backlash: Prince.
The artist formerly known as a symbol has been added to the three-day event's second night, joining headliners Portishead and Kraftwerk. It will be Prince's first-ever performance at a major US music festival, following his lengthy 2007 runs in Las Vegas, London, and Los Angeles.
Coachella is set for April 25-27 at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California, near Palm Springs. It will also feature sets from the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Jack Johnson, the Verve, the Raconteurs, My Morning Jacket, Roger Waters, Love and Rockets, and Spiritualized, among others.
