Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins performs three songs for MP3.com in these exclusive live videos.
With several collections already under her belt, Melbourne native Missy Higgins has built up a large, strong audience in her native Australia, making her quite a big deal on that side of the Pacific. On US shores, though, she's considered a "rising star," though if stints on Late Night With Conan O'Brien and a few key TV placements (including Grey's Anatomy, The Hills, and So You Think You Can Dance, the latter a bigger deal than you might realize) are any indication, she stands to reach a much larger audience.
Missy's latest album is On A Clear Night, and fans of her earlier work will find it familiar territory: irresistible melodies and lyrics delivered by a voice that means it. She's aided this time by producer Mitchell Froom (who helmed the first three Crowded House albums), as well as works by other quality artists such as Ron Sexsmith, Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, and the Finn Brothers.
"The album hopefully reflects where I'm at right now," explains Missy. "I just feel a lot clearer about who I am and what I want to be doing with my music. Working with Mitchell was a big part of that process too."
During a trip to the US this past spring, Missy stopped by the MP3.com offices and graced us with a quiet, intimate set featuring three songs from On a Clear Night. We captured the experience on video--watch these exclusive performances ("Secret," "Where I Stood," and "The Wrong Girl") right here on MP3.com.

Great version of Wrong Girl. One of my favorites. For those new to Missy's music, she is perhaps the best singer/songwriter in the last 20 years.
She combines fresh, sensitive lyrics with well thought out melodies, then adds her powerful, and sultry voice to cap it off. Her phrasing is very distinctive, unlike any singer I've heard. Listen closely to the way she wraps her lyrics around the melodies, where she takes breaths, etc. Very beautiful and original.
Hope your tour is going great. We miss you in Los Angeles. Come back soon.
