MP3: Hey, Rock. Rock: What it is. MP3: How you doin', man? Rock: Chillin like a villain. MP3: So you excited about the new album or what? Rock: Yessireefer. MP3: Nice. What made you decide to get back with the team? I know you were doing your thing on the solo tip for a minute. Rock: It's always been my family. Like right, wrong or indifferent. You know what I'm saying? You know, I'll go—I'll be angry and shit, but you know. Like, think about your brother. If your brother got on your nerves and you walked out the crib, and then while you was gone, you heard somebody jumped your brother. You don’t give a f*** that you was mad at your brother. Some nigga just jumped your brother. You coming to get it poppin. You know what I mean? And that's what it is. MP3: Okay. So what can you tell us about the new record? I mean, I've heard a little bit. I've heard a few tracks and some sampler CDs and stuff like that, but what can we expect? Rock: You all can expect me. You can expect some more of me. And all of us, basically. You know what I mean? All of us are here. We're all a unit. I don't think there's any one song with less than four of us on it. We keep it action-packed. It's a Boot Camp album. It's basically, it's for us and for y’all. You know what I mean? It's like we know that the fans relate to the great eight. Smif N Wessun, Heltah Skeltah, O.G.C. So that's basically what you got on there, all eight of us. You know what I'm saying? And everybody's on top of their game and gettin good and stupid with it. So, I mean, we basically always just did what we do. Like, from my aspect. You might ask another one of the homies and get a different reaction, but we always do what we do. And that's it. I'm going to just get on the beat and I'm going to do what the f*** I want to do on the beat. You understand what I'm saying? And niggas is going to like it, and that's what it is. Niggas like me and my man, you know, me and my boy Ruck, we specialize in bullying the beat. We're going to make you like it. You understand what I'm saying? That's what it is. I mean, we're going to make you like it. Buck is going to make you think about it. You understand what I'm saying? And Steele is going to make you revolt. Nigga Tek going to make you want to get some dice. You understand what I'm saying? We all play our position, you know what I mean, but we trendsetters. And we a team. We a league of extraordinary gentlemen, seriously. MP3: Nice. Right on. What about a future Heltah Skeltah record? Is that ever going to happen? Rock: Oh, we're already working on that. It's called D.I.R.T. MP3: D.I.R.T.? Rock: Stands for Da Incredible Rap Team. MP3: Nice. Rock: You know what I mean? That's already self-explanatory. MP3: No doubt. Is that going to come out later this year or next year or what? Rock: First we're going to put out [Sean Price's solo album] Jesus Price. MP3: Right, right. That's the next one. Rock: So that'll be out—Jesus Price will be out in, like, September or October. I mean, realistically, we're just going to keep flushing out music. I mean, it is what it is. We're on a roll. And we're going to take advantage of it. MP3: You guys just got back from Europe, right? You were overseas recently? Rock: Yeah, no doubt. MP3: How was that? Rock: It's cool. Yeah, I love Europe. I mean, the language barrier get on my nerves every once in a while, but other than that, the people show me love. You know what I mean? Because that's all you got to do. If you act right towards me, I ain't got no problem with you. MP3: Sure. So what's next on your agenda? You guys are doing a US tour or what? Rock: Yeah. We leave in a couple of days before the album drop for the US jump. We're gonna be 'gone til November.' Nah, we'll be gone from July to August, we'll be gone for a month and change, then we'll be back, then we're going up to Canada and all of that. Northern tour and all of that s***. You know what I mean? So we're trying to crank out—well, we're here right now. Like, I'm talking to you. I'm in the studio. We're trying to crank out as much as we can crank out while we're here. Because once it starts jumping, it starts jumping. MP3: Cool, man. That sounds good. Well, I'll definitely catch you guys next time you're in the Bay. Rock: No doubt, no doubt. Hold on a sec. MP3: Thanks, man. Rock: Who's next? Tek: What it is, my boy? MP3: Hey. Who's this? Tek: This Tek, Smif N Wessun. MP3: What's up, Tek? How you doin', man? Tek: Can't call it. MP3: Right on. You excited about this new record? Tek: Oh, yes sir. Yes sir. MP3: Cool, man. I got a chance to listen to a couple tracks off it, and it sounds real good. Tek: That's what's up. MP3: I wanted to ask, were you psyched about the last Smif N Wessun record that dropped last year? Tek: The Reloaded? MP3: Yeah. Tek: Yeah. Reloaded was a hot album. Reloaded was fun recording, that was a good thing. MP3: No doubt. And you guys have a mixtape that came out recently, right? Tek: X Files, yeah. MP3: Okay. What've you got on there? Tek: Some unreleased joints, some new joints that we've been recording. We're just constantly working. MP3: Nice. Yeah, you guys seem to just be putting out material like crazy. Seems like every couple weeks you got some new joints coming out. Tek: Yeah, it don't stop. MP3: What's up with the next Smif N Wessun record? You guys have any big plans for that? Tek: Yeah. Just go in and get that music. Make some street anthems and some good records. The first shot is The Last Stand, the Boot Camp s***. After that, we're going back in. Well, we're already in. We're just doing it. MP3: Cool, man. A lot of people in the team are doing group albums but also doing solo albums. Is that something that you ever think about? Tek: I mean, yeah, I got one in the works, I’m just working on it, but like, that's on the back burner right now. It's just The Last Stand and the next Smif N Wessun, then it's Tek's solo album. Working on a mixtape right now. And I'm just putting it all together. MP3: I know that you guys back in the day did a bunch of stuff with Tupac. Is any of that stuff going to be coming out ever, or is that sort of on his mom? Tek: Yeah, that's actually on Afeni and Shug, so we ain't go no control over that right now. They just call us when they want us, and you know, we reach out to them, keep in touch with the family, and it's all love. MP3: Sounds good. I know that you guys have been doing some stuff, like some DVD, film stuff and Steele's doing some TV stuff. Tek: Yeah, that's still BTU. He runs the camera program for Boot Camp. He record most of the joints that we do. The studio sessions, and he got his own cable company, Bucktown USA. So, you know, we try to do it from all aspects of the game. MP3: Yeah. That's great, man. I like the video, the compilation that came out recently. That was real tight. I liked that a lot. Tek: Boot Camp Video Surveillance. MP3: Yeah, yeah. Exactly. Tek: F'sho. MP3: Yeah, that was hot. Well, can you just pass the phone to whoever else is around there? Tek: Sure, I got you. MP3: Thanks, man. Tek: All right. Steele: Hey. What's happening? This is Steele. MP3: Hey. What's going on, man? How you doin'? Steele: I'm all right. Yourself? MP3: I'm doing good. I'm doing good. So you guys are amped about the new record or what? Steele: Yeah. Pretty amped. I think the energy is good, you know. The momentum amongst the soldiers is good. Morale is up. We off to a good pace, even from our perspective. The energy perspective, the fan perspective, the label perspective, management. Everybody is pretty much, you know, antennas is up. MP3: Nice. Yeah, you had a real big year last year with Triple Threat releases, and it seems like you guys are just full speed ahead. Steele: Well, I mean, you learn from your mistakes, man. Try to atleast. We've been in a lot of situations, enough situations, legally, dealt with enough contracts. Dealt with enough labels and distribution situations enough to know, like, how can we place ourselves in a situation where it works out for each one of us. You know, we might not get that big boom that everybody mysteriously thinks that you get when you get on to the hip-hop or rapping or whatever aspect, but, you know, we actually believe in working hard. Our just desserts is being able to continue to put out music and still have the love from the fans out there, you know? MP3: Yeah. No doubt. Now, you guys have always had a real super devoted fan base. When you go out on the road and do shows, do you find that most of the cats in the crowd is older heads that have been sort of down since Day 1, or younger kids that have gotten in your stuff recently, or both, or what? Steele: Well, one thing—honestly, one thing that kind of shocked me, because I always wonder who's going to come to a Boot Camp show. And wherever it is, you know, from New York to VA to LA to Miami, it's always a nice mixture. Like sometimes we perform in front of crowds who don't know what we're going to perform when we come out on stage. But there might be a handful of people who be like, "Oh, s***, I remember that song." You know? And they might not know us at first, but they give us a chance. That's one thing that's cool about some cats, you know, we've been fortunate to get that chance. A lot of times you don't get that chance. A lot of times we've been on stage and people's like, "Nah, we don't really want to hear that right now. We want to party. We want to bounce. That's what we want to do." But we've been fortunate enough to still have love, you know. Genuine love. So it works, man. MP3: Nice. That sounds good, man. Well, I look forward to seeing you guys when you come out to California. Steele: Yeah, I look forward to being out in Cali man. Rock just came from Cali a little while ago. Haven't been out there in a minute. MP3: Yeah, it's nice out here, definitely. Well, good luck with the album and everything. It's good talking to you. And I guess just pass the phone along to whoever's near there. Steele: Okay. Thank you. MP3: Cool. Thanks, Steele. Steele: Thanks. Starang: What's up? MP3: Hey. Who's this? Starang: This is Starang Wondah, what's up? MP3: Hey. What's going on, man? How you doin'? Starang: Everything good. MP3: You psyched about the new album or what? Starang: Oh, definitely. MP3: What I wanted to ask is, I know a lot of people have, you know, coming together for the group thing but also doing solo projects. Do you have anything like that planned? Starang: Oh, yeah, definitely. It's gonna be called The Unveiling. MP3: Are you working on recording that stuff now or what sort of time frame are you talking? Starang: Probably the wintertime, this year. MP3: Okay. Right on, man. Cool. How is this new Boot Camp record, how is it different from your older stuff, and how is it similar? Starang: It was like, more free man. There's a lot of freedom to do what they want now. You know what I'm saying? Pick different producers. We're not just using Beatminerz or certain types of producers. We using a lot of new producers outside of them that's blowin up and stuff. MP3: What about in terms of another O.G.C. record? Is that ever going to happen? Starang: It's possible. It might happen, but right now I'm working on this solo joint. MP3: Is that going to be through Duck Down as well? Starang: Yeah. MP3: Cool. Now since you guys have been in it for so long, is it hard to stay hungry after all these years? Starang: It's hard, but when you've haven't been [that] successful, it makes it easier to get hungry. Because you have no choice, you know what I'm saying? Hold on. I'll put Ruck on the phone… Sean Price: This is Sean Price. MP3: Sean P. What's going on, man? Sean Price: I’m aight man, I’m eatin'. MP3: Okay. Right on, I'll try not to take up too much of your time. Sean Price: All right. Go. MP3: You got a really strong, very positive reaction to Monkey Barz. What can we expect from the Jesus Price record? Sean Price: Same thing. You know what I mean? I ain't trying to reinvent the wheel. Just, you know, if it ain't broke… MP3: Yeah, yeah. No doubt. Who you got doing the beats for you on that? Sean Price: Khrysis, 9th Wonder, Ill Mind, PF Cuttin, and Moss. MP3: Do you have a single picked out for that yet? Sean Price: No, not yet. You know, niggas like me don't give a f*** what the single is, man. You know what I mean? I'm in no position to be putting out the single set-up. The whole album got to be banging. You know what I mean? MP3: Yeah, totally. Sean Price: That's what I concentrate on. MP3: Now, what about another Heltah Skeltah record? Is that happening? Sean Price: Yeah, we're working on that right now. MP3: Cool, man. I'm psyched to hear that. Sean Price: We be working on that right now. We got about three songs done. MP3: I was asking one of the other cats, you know, you guys have been doing this for such a long time now. You've got a lot of classic records in your catalogue. Is it hard to stay hungry and to stay motivated when you've been in the game so long? Sean Price: Nah, not at all, man, cuz I work on my craft all the time. You know, and I listen to everybody. You know what I mean? You know what? This is my lane right here, right now. This is the Sean Price era right now. MP3: It is, man. Definitely. Sean Price: I'm about to bomb on niggas man, word. I can't wait for this s*** to drop. MP3: I look forward to hearing that. Okay, I'll let you finish your grub, man. Thanks. Sean Price: All right.
