Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies (1973)

"When I was a kid my sister moved out of the house real early and she lived in a trailer...that was one of the records she had and I would always go over to her house and pull that record out."

- Brett Netson

The Replacements - Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash (1981)

"Just the rawness of Sorry Ma was what really appealed to me...little short songs about absolutely nothing."

- Brett Nelson

Soul Asylum - Made To Be Broken (1986)

"Just the power of that record, and seeing them do it live was just so impressive."

- Jim Roth

Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me (1987)

"It kind of actually took me a while to get a grip on it...it took a few listens to understand where they were coming from, and then at some point it became the most magical record to me."

- Doug Martsch

Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation (1988)

This one helped me make sense out of Sister...it wasn't until Daydream Nation came out that those records began to make sense."

- Scott Plouf

To have mentioned Neil Young would have been redundant. While Doug is always cited as a guitar god, the less explored truth is that he writes the most wonderful lyrics. They are always multi-layered in meaning, humble, humorous, insightful and they seem to speak to me at whatever stage in my life I seem to be at.

"and God is whoever you're performing for"

Alice cooper is really out of place among this hardcore indie stuff. I believe i've heard a built to spill song before and if its the one im thinking about then these choices make sense.

It's like "great college-rock albums of the '80s." All great albums, though. The last two would definitely be in my top ten, along with BTS's "There's Nothing Wrong With Love."

That's some serious indieness...

and I'd put Built To Spill's "Keep It Like A Secret" on my list.
