The world's best FM transmitters (so far)

Take your MP3s on your next road trip with these FM transmitters.

While we certainly haven't reviewed every FM transmitter on the market (though we apsire to), we have tried out a fair share of winners and, more commonly, duds. As a matter of fact, most transmitters of the past were not very good at all. If you, like me, had to have one because you ran out of options for getting your MP3 player to play on your car stereo, you had to settle for subpar, static-ridden sound.

These days, however, it seems FM transmission is a legitimate option, with better signal strength in many transmission devices, including the handful of XM and Sirius devices that use FM transmission to beam satellite radio to a car stereo. (The FCC believes some device manufacturers have overboosted transmission levels.) If you have an iPod, you're in luck, since most transmitters are designed with that player in mind. However, most of the transmitters here include a line-in port so that you can use non-iPods. There are, of course, decent non-brand-specific models, too.
