British and Vegas bands nab two awards apiece; Winehouse, Timberlake, Muse, James Morrison, Take That, and Nelly Furtado also land awards; Oasis honored.

One of Britain's top new bands and a Las Vegas band that broke first in Britain grabbed the top honors at the Brit Awards last night, as the Arctic Monkeys and the Killers took home two awards apiece.

Arctic Monkeys Arctic Monkeys

The Monkeys, set to release their sophomore album April 24, won British group and British album for their UK smash Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, while the Killers won international group and international album for Sam's Town.

The Monkeys weren't in attendance at the event but did tape two recorded acceptance speeches, appearing in The Wizard of Oz and Village People costumes.

Take That won the award for the fan-voted British single award for "Patience," just after it performed the song at the event. The event featured much talk of one-time Take That member Robbie Williams, who entered rehab this week for an addiction to prescription drugs. Rehab became fodder for the night, as Amy Winehouse, who won for best British female artist, performed her song "Rehab," and Joss Stone later sang the chorus in presenting an award.

Of Winehouse, host Russell Brand quipped that she "has one of the best voices on the planet, when she is singing. When she is talking, she sounds like a cab driver."

Muse was named best British live act, Justin Timberlake earned international male solo honors, Nelly Furtado won for best international female, and James Morrison won for British male solo artist. Scottish newcomers the Fratellis took home the British breakthrough act award.

Oasis, recipients of the contribution to British music award, closed the event with a five-song set that featured "Cigarettes and Alcohol," "Morning Glory," "Don't Look Back in Anger," and "Rock'n'Roll Star."
