Citing concert industry sources, Chicago Sun-Times says veteran rockers will headline three-day August fest in Chicago.
One of the breakout superstars of the original Lollapalooza is reportedly set to headline the reincarnated festival this year.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported today that Pearl Jam will serve as one of the headlining acts at this year's edition of Lollapalooza in Chicago, 15 years after the Seattle rock band rose to fame at the then-traveling music festival.
Now a three-day festival in Chicago's Grant Park, Lollapalooza won't announce its 130-band lineup officially until late March at the earliest, but the grunge pioneers will headline of the days for the August 3-5 event, three concert industry sources told the paper.
Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder hails from the Chicago suburb of Evanston and has frequently made special appearances solo and with his band in the Windy City. The only confirmed dates on Pearl Jam's itinerary are 13 European shows in June.
The band spent most of 2006 touring in support of its self-titled album, which hits stores in May 2006. Vedder and company will be on hand at a March 12 ceremony to induct R.E.M. into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, joining fellow inducters Jay-Z (Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five), Keith Richards (Ronettes), Zack de la Rocha (Patti Smith), and Velvet Revolver (Van Halen).
