"You (Remix)" feat. Nas & Andre 3000 "
Lloyd: What up, yo? MP3: Chilling, chilling. What's up with the new album? What can you tell us about it? I'll tell you that it's called Street Love, that it drops March 13th, and that it features the singles "You" featuring Lil Wayne, the remix to "You" featuring Andre 3000 and Nas and the follow-up single, "Get it Shawty" produced by JLack who is Usher's younger brother. Nice. It's incredible. Total representation of the youth of the future. That's what's up. Yes, sir. So how does it differ from Southside? Your debut album was a big hit. Well I've grown a lot since then, sir. Right, right. I mean, I've got hair, a little bit of hair on my chin. Let me see, music-wise my sound has matured a lot. I have also taken a more controlling stance in my sound, in making music, writing my songs, executively producing my albums. So being young, being an executive producer is a big, big step for me, not only in music but in business. And music is my business. Excellent. Yes, sir. Now a lot of people in R&B and hip-hop, it's not just music anymore, it's, like, random clothing deals and sneaker deals, their own line of booze and energy drinks and all that stuff. Are you looking to expand your business horizons at all? Definitely. It's always about wanting more and wanting to grow, wanting to become better than the last time around, sir, because there's always another level that you can take it to. And the last thing that you should do is become content with you and your situation, you know. Always just push, push, push the limits. Right on. Push it to the limit. And pass the limit. Are you going to be doing a big tour after the album drops? Oh, actually as we speak. You're on tour now? Yeah, man, coming to a city near you. Who are you performing with? Different people. Sometimes I run up there with Lil Wayne. You just never know. As I say, expect the unexpected. Right, right. I hear you. So R&B music as a whole has changed a lot over the years, for better and for worse, you know what I'm saying. No, all for better. All for better? Change is always for better. Okay. It can never have a change for worse. I think that the worse thing that we could have is an over saturation of one sound in music. I think that we need a lot of variety, man. So for me to be able to listen to John Legend, who is old school, and then to switch it up to R. Kelly, who is like freak nasty strip clubs with the booty, that kind of thing, and then for me to go from there to Gnarls Barkley is like total…it's just chaos but it's what we need. I hear you, man. Now you've worked with a lot of different people and various other artists. Is there anybody out there that you'd really like to collaborate with that you haven't gotten a chance to yet? I'm actually pretty fulfilled, man. I mean, I worked with Andre and Nas. That's huge. I work with Lil Weezy. I work with Jazze Pha. I'm pretty happy, man. Nice. So what does the future hold for you? Obviously doing the tour, you've got the album out, where would you like to see yourself, let's say, five years from now? Oh, man, to infinity and beyond like Buzz Lightyear. To say where I will be five years from now is a prediction that not even I can make. I can only tell you and guarantee everyone that I'm going to live everyday like it's my last, to its fullest, and I'm going to go all out. I'm going to give it my all so that hopefully five years from now I can be able to provide an opportunity to the people who were there for me before I started, to be able to sign the acts to Young Goldie Music and have a successful label as well. Excellent, man. So this is a question that I ask to everybody. There is so many people out there, young talented cats that's trying to get on. The demo tape has kind of been replaced by the internet. Everybody's on Myspace trying to do their thing. I mean, they're already on, you know. All you need is a good song, man. It's all about the music. People ask, like, "what does it take to get a record deal, how long does it take?" And ultimately if you've got good music, then no one will be able to deny you. No doubt. Well you got any last words for the fans out there, the people that's going to be checking this out? Oh, yeah, man. Never be afraid to let your light shine because dreams are achievable and I think that I'm a living representation to my generation that dreams come true, man. I want people to know why we make music. We make it because we love it. It's not about money, fame or notoriety. So I encourage people to do what they do for the right reasons because you love what you're doing. Not everyone is blessed with the opportunity to do what they love everyday. So just don't take it for granted, man. Right on. Well thanks for taking the time to talk to us, Lloyd. I appreciate it. Hey, Brolin, man, thanks for having me. Good luck with the album. Hey, hey. All right. Take it easy. Peace out.
