Legendary hip-hop trio will revisit its funky instrumentals from In Sound From Way Out at festival and other live sets this summer.
The Sasquatch Music Festival had promised some big news this week, and the two-day Washington state event came through with word that the Beastie Boys--already slated to perform at Sasquatch--will play a second, instrumental show as well.
The Beasties made the announcement on their Web site in a 10-point list of items that mentioned their forthcoming new album, their live appearances, the instrumental shows, and a pending redesign of their Web site. Each of these points was followed by something about it being "sick" or a "gala event."
The legendary hip-hop trio have played jazz-funk instrumentals for short stretches of their shows ever since the 1996 release of The In Sound From Way Out, a full album of previously released jazz/funk instrumentals. But rarely has the group performed an entire set of instrumentals, and the Beasties said Sasquatch won't be the only time it does just that.
The group will also play a few other instrumental shows, including one at the Bestival, the Isle of Wight event curated by producer Rob Da Bank and taking place September 7-9.
As for Sasquatch, the two-day event has made a bunch of additions to its previously announced lineup. The roster, which already included Bjork, Arcade Fire, Interpol, Manu Chao, and Bad Brains, now also features Blackalicious, Clinic, The Polyphonic Spree, Earl Greyhound, Stars of Track and Field, and several comedians, including Aziz Ansari, Michael Showalter, and host Sarah Silverman.
