Richards says he snorted father's ashes

Some people go with an urn on the mantle. Others scatter them symbolically in places like the ocean, like Donnie who loved bowling. But for Keith Richards, the ashes of his deceased father were simply something which had not yet been snorted. In an interview with NME.com published today, the Rolling Stones' guitarist was asked about the strangest thing he's ever snorted.

"The strangest thing I've tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father," Richards was quoted as saying. "He was cremated, and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared. It went down pretty well, and I’m still alive." Richards' father Bert died in 2002 at the age of 84. We can only hope he's taking the pi**, but given the legend's much-documented, well, experience, it's certainly probable.

Richards cautioned young rockers not to emulate his lifestyle. "I did it because that was the way I did it," he said. "Now people think it's a way of life. I've no pretensions about immortality. I'm the same as everyone...just kind of lucky. I was number one on the 'who's likely to die' list for 10 years. I mean, I was really disappointed when I fell off the list."

He also used the interview to take a shot at Pete Doherty, the frontman of British band Babyshambles who is currently dating supermodel Kate Moss. "My advice for Pete Doherty is that he should shut the f*** up and leave her," he said. "I don't know the man, all I know is he's pushing his luck and there it is, but so is Kate, who I know very well. Kate wants to play with bad boys, and she's done one, and then another one, and then another one. Badabing, badabing, badaboom. She'll live, the boys will die."

Avril blasts Britney

She might be three years younger, but Avril Lavigne has plenty to say about fellow pop singer Britney Spears. In an interview with The Sun, Lavigne said, "What's happened to Britney is all down to who she is as a person. If you want a piece of this business you have to be able to deal with it. You can't complain about the pressures, the paparazzi, the madness because that's the job." Lavigne adds that she is able to live a relatively normal life--by concealing her private life from the press. "No one really gets to know," she said. Lavigne had her moment in the paparazzi crosshair last year when she allegedly spat at photographers while walking with her husband, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley.

Supremes don't revive Brown suit

The Supreme Court this week declined to revive a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a woman who claims the late soul singer James Brown raped her nearly 20 years ago. The justices did not comment on their order. Jacque Hollander said in her lawsuit that Brown raped her at gunpoint in 1988 while she was his publicist. She sought $106 million in damages. A federal judge dismissed the lawsuit in 2005, saying Hollander waited too long to file. An appeals court upheld the judge's order last year. Brown died December 25 at age 73.

Shaver sought in Texas shooting

Police have issued arrest warrants for country singer Billy Joe Shaver after he shot and wounded a man outside a Texas bar, the entertainer's attorney told the Associated Press. After Shaver left a bar in Lorena on Saturday night, a drunk, aggressive stranger with a knife followed him into the parking lot, said attorney Joseph A. Turner of Austin. Shaver shot him in self-defense, he said. Police in Lorena--about 80 miles north of Austin--issued arrest warrants late Monday on charges of aggravated assault and possessing a firearm in a prohibited place, Turner said.

Shaver attempted to surrender to Austin police Monday night but was not arrested because the police did not have a record of the warrants, said Turner, who accompanied Shaver. Lorena authorities could not be reached for comment early Tuesday. "We're working with the police to get this resolved," Turner told The Associated Press. "His priority is dealing with this issue."
