Hova rep denies rumor of son
A spokesperson for rapper-mogul Jay-Z has vehemently denied reports that he is the father of a Trinidadian model's five-year-old son. The long-simmering rumor centers on Shenelle Scott, a 26-year-old model from Trinidad that Jay-Z reportedly met in 1998 on the set of the video for "Big Pimpin'." Several media outlets have reported that Hova--real name Shawn Carter--paid Scott $1 million on condition that his name was not on the baby's birth certificate.
A rep for the rapper told AllHipHop.com, "There is no truth to these ridiculous rumors. People should be ashamed of using this kind of story and exploiting a child for publicity and ratings." According to reports, the boy was born January 30, 2002, in Los Angeles. Another man's name is officially listed on the child's birth certificate.
Lily Allen blasts media portrayal
Sick of hearing about her supposed rivalry with fellow UK chanteuse Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen has taken to her MySpace blog, decrying the media's portrayal of female stars in the music business. "Every interview I do at the moment I'm getting asked how I feel about Amy Winehouse," she wrote. "It's starting to really pi** me off. I really like Amy and am totally supportive of her. Why do people always try and play women off against each other the whole time? Yes, Amy and I are both English and yes, we're both in our early twenties. Why don't they [the media] try and create a feud between me and James Morrison or Amy and Paulo Nutini? Or why not create a rivalry between the boys? I think there is something seriously wrong with this part of our culture."
The bottom line, Allen wrote, is that she isn't competing with Winehouse. "I certainly didn't go into music to compete against other artists, and I very much doubt anyone else does. What I do is what I do. And what Amy does is what Amy does. The two have got f*** all to do with each other. It's so boring and complete rubbish."
Xzibit, Governator team for Earth Day
In the unlikely Earth Day campaign department, Xzibit and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger are teaming up to pimp a '65 Chevy Impala on an upcoming episode of MTV's hit show Pimp My Ride, which Xzibit hosts. Schwarzenegger, Mad Mike, and the crew of Pimp My Ride give the Impala an ecological makeover on the show's season premiere, which takes place on Earth Day (April 22). The revamped car will run on biodiesel fuel.
"I would like to thank MTV and the entire Pimp My Ride crew for shining the spotlight on the importance of alternative fuels and the fight against global warming," Schwarzenegger said in a statement. "I am very encouraged by the great potential in converting vehicles to run on biodiesel as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I am pleased that the power of MTV's message will reach an audience throughout California and the nation to reinforce the benefits of alternative-fuel vehicles and protecting our environment."
Court allows MC5 film to proceed
A federal judge in Los Angeles has ruled in favor of the producers of the documentary MC5: A True Testimonial in a lawsuit brought by the legendary rock band's guitarist Wayne Kramer over the use of MC5's songs in the film. US district judge Andrew Guilford ruled in favor of Chicago film studio Future/Now Productions, which Kramer sued in 2005 claiming the documentary violated his copyrights by featuring material that was not authorized for use. He sought $75,000 in damages and profits from the film. The ruling clears one obstacle for a release of True Testimonial. Kramer prominently appears in the film, which made the film festival round in 2003 and 2004, but reportedly had a falling out with the producers over his desire to serve as the movie's musical director.
