Sri Lanka grime queen prepping sophomore effort with help from Diplo and Timbaland.
One of the most talked-about albums of 2005 is about to get a sequel.
M.I.A., the pint-size grime rapper from London by way of Sri Lanka, unveiled details of her sophomore effort today, calling her forthcoming record Kala, which will be in stores June 26. The album is the follow-up to Arular, which was a near-unanimous inclusion of the best-of lists for 2005. Kala will be led off by the single "Bird Flu," which M.I.A. uploaded to her MySpace page soon after the outbreak of avian flu at one of the farms of British poultry processing giant Bernard Matthews. The video for the track features chaotic imagery to go along with the song's blistering percussion.
The album will feature contributions from her longtime collaborator Diplo, as well as superproducer Timbaland, whose new solo album, Shock Value, featured an appearance by the Sri Lankan singer. Timbaland is said to have produced the song "Jimmy" for M.I.A., a song described in The Guardian as a "Bollywood disco track."
M.I.A. has confirmed only two live performances to date, at the Sasquatch Festival in George, Washington, on May 26 and at the Virgin Festival in Toronto on September 8-9.

Oldest First | Newest FirstI've been following this album closely and I know who's behind it and when this album drops ithink most people will be suprised to find that the majority of the tracks are produced by SWITCH and even those that are not will have additional production by SWITCH and I think the Guardian may have got it wrong with Timbaland and "Jimmy" guess who the producer of that is....
Also the ARULAR album had three tracks on it by a producer called A.Brucker who also happens to be the same producer as SWITCH.
M.I.A and SWITCH is likely to be the hottest production team since Timbaland and Missy teamed up!
I may be completely wrong, but I guess will find out later this year!
